Course Overview

This course is for learners continuing from the intermediate ceramics course at BTC, and those with who have good knowledge and experience of working with clay and its processes. This will be an experimental journey in ceramics with an opportunity to create your own personal and unique pieces.

You will be given the opportunity to design and create a project of your choosing. There will be further opportunity to develop throwing skills and experimenting with several glazing techniques. Although this course will be more self-directed, you will be given support, instruction and encouragement from your tutor.

Additional costs:

Although basic materials are provided, such as clay and glazes, there is a limited supply. For larger works you may need to supply your own glaze and contribute to the clay stock. Tools (including brushes) are basic, you may benefit from bringing your own.

Assessment Methods

There is no formal assessment but continuous tutor and peer-led formative assessment and encouragement.

Progression Options

Students may wish to progress to a Foundation Diploma in Ceramics. You may wish to create your own studio and/or become a practicing potter or ceramic artist.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have completed an intermediate ceramics course or have sound knowledge and experience of working with clay.
