Course Overview

This course is designed for anyone interested in sewing, pattern cutting and garment construction, it builds on the knowledge and skills learned in the Beginners Sewing course or suits people who have used a sewing machine recently and have some understanding of sewing garments.

Over the ten weeks, students will learn a range of fashion and textiles based skills to build on their skills with a self-led project and guidance from our experienced industry-based tutor.

Topics may include:

  • Pockets
  • Stretch fabric
  • Free machine embroidery
  • Pattern cutting techniques
  • Using the overlocker.

Please note: students will be required to purchase any specific fabrics they would like to work with.

Assessment Methods

Progress is assessed practically but informally and measured against individual aims and objectives set from the start and reviewed at the end of the course.

Progression Options

Completion of this course leads nicely to the Advanced Sewing course planned during the Academic Year 26/27.

Entry Requirements

Some knowledge and experience with a sewing machine but the main thing to bring is your enthusiasm to get better acquainted with sewing, pattern cutting and garment construction.
