READ MADISON’S STORY
I study Uniformed Protective Services. What I love most about this course is how varied and open it is. We get to learn about lots of different areas across the public services, which really helps you find the right path for your future career.
One of my favourite parts of the course is developing personal fitness. We spend time in the gym improving our physical strength and endurance, which is really important for anyone thinking about a career in the police or emergency services. The balance between practical and theory lessons keeps things interesting, and every topic we study feels relevant to real-life situations.
At the moment, I’m in the process of applying to become a PCSO (Police Community Support Officer), which has always been a goal of mine. The application process involves several stages, including a workshop day at the police station, an online session, a face-to-face interview, and a fitness test. It’s exciting to be putting what I’ve learned on my course into action.
When I first started college, I was quite shy and unsure about what I wanted to do. Now, I’m so much more confident, both in myself and in my career goals. The course has opened my eyes to the wide range of opportunities available within the uniformed services, and the support from lecturers has been amazing. They’re always there to help and guide us, whether it’s with assignments or career advice.
Looking ahead, my goal is to progress within the police force, starting as a PCSO and eventually becoming a police officer. This course has given me the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take those next steps. It’s been such a rewarding experience, and I’m really proud of how far I’ve come.
I’ve also had some fantastic opportunities outside the classroom. Recently, I travelled to South Africa as part of a volunteering trip. It was honestly a life-changing experience. We spent the first few days painting classrooms, and then visited local schools, helping children with Maths, English, and reading. We also spent time playing games with younger children at a crèche. It was eye-opening to see how different life is over there, and it made me even more passionate about helping others.
