I’m Sam, and I’m studying the Pathway to Independence and Employment course. One of the things I enjoy most is the work experience I gain through placements at the railway and in our local shop. It’s been really helpful in understanding what it’s like to work in a real job setting.
Through these experiences, I’ve developed important skills like teamwork and independence. Working in the shop and on the railway projects has prepared me for future employment by giving me practical, real-world experience. My teachers and lecturers have been very supportive. They take the time to explain exactly what I need to do, and they’re always pleased when I complete tasks well.
I really enjoy college because it’s a great place to make new friends, gain experience, and just do my best. One of my favourite facilities is the college shop, which provides valuable retail experience that I hope to turn into a career.
Additionally, I’ve been involved in the railway project, visiting stations like Minehead and Watchet. At Minehead, we clean the train carriages inside and out, and at Watchet, we work in the garden, planting and taking care of the area. I especially enjoy painting fences around the Watchet station because I love art and creative work.
Using Century [Tech] has really helped my learning, and it’s provided me with the knowledge I need and helped me grow my understanding of what I’m doing.
If I had to sum up my experience at college in two or three words, I’d say it’s the best opportunity I’ve ever had in my life. It’s helped me gain confidence, skills, and experiences I will carry with me into the future.
