SARA

Hi, I’m Sara, and I’m currently studying Hairdressing. What I enjoy most about my course is that I learn something new every day. These skills will help me make clients happy in the future, and I really love seeing the confident smiles when someone leaves my chair with a great hairstyle.

My goal is to own my own salon someday. I’m trying to learn as much as I can here so I can turn that dream into reality. I believe that college is preparing me well for this career. It’s helped me to improve my communication with clients, and understand how to suggest styles that suit their face shape and individual preferences.

Outside of class, I like to practice at home by doing friends’ and family’s hair, my mum and sisters particularly. It’s a good way to keep developing my skills.

In the future, I plan to progress to Level 3, after completing my current Level 2. I’ve already completed Level 1, and I think continuing with a Level 3 and possibly doing an apprenticeship will help me move further in my career. The college has been very supportive of my ambitions. They’ve helped me plan my next steps, and I feel confident about my future.

A typical week for me includes three days in college. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we focus solely on practical lessons from 9:00 to 4:00, with a break in between. On Thursday, we do theory lessons.

Since moving to the UK two years ago, I’ve adjusted well thanks to the support from college staff. I completed Level 1 here and passed my Maths and English IGCSEs on the first try. They have always checked in to see if I need extra help or support, making my learning experience very positive and encouraging.

Making clients feel happy and confident is my favourite part of the course, and it’s rewarding to see how a good haircut can boost someone’s self-esteem.
