Course Overview

The primary goals of this course is for you to build on previous counselling skills training and theoretical learning and acquire a comprehensive knowledge of counselling skills and theory. You will develop the capacity to apply knowledge of theory and skills to counselling practice, and be able to identify and explore personal process and developmental needs.

If you work in care, health, management and/or education related occupations or voluntary work, this could be the course for you. It is a perfect progression path if you wish to continue to higher level professional counselling training.

The qualification is intended to contribute to career development in participants’ own fields and/or as a part of their own personal development and as a progressive route to higher level counselling training. This qualification has been given NCPS Recognised Qualification CPCAB CAST-L3 status by the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

  • Ethical frameworks
  • Counselling theory
  • Self-awareness
  • Feedback and reflection
  • Applying counselling skills in a range of occupational settings.

Assessment Methods

Students can be assessed through a wide range of methods including observation of skills practice, discussion, projects, tutorials, peer and self-assessment, and group work.

There are no external assessments such as exams needed to pass the seven outcomes that make up this qualification.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to the Therapeutic Counselling Level 4 Diploma, delivered by University Centre Somerset.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have successfully completed a minimum of 75 hours of previous counselling training at Level 2 and a willingness to engage with others at emotional depth.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.
