Course Overview

This one-year course will support your progression to the Level 3 in Hairdressing, or employment. This course has been designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you need to be successful in the sector. You will also complete work experience.

This programme is delivered in our training salons, along with classroom-based sessions. This course can be structured to enable retakes of GCSE English and maths, if required.

Topics may include:

  • Working in the hair industry
  • Client consultation
  • Shampooing and conditioning hair
  • Cutting women’s hair
  • Colour and lightening hair
  • Styling and dressing hair.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence using a range of assessment methods. These may include individual research, project work, exams, and practical observations.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the course and meeting the GCSE requirements, you could progress to a Level 3 in Hairdressing or Barbering. Alternatively, you could progress into employment, or an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range including English and maths or an appropriate Level 1 qualification alongside these GCSE grades. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and induction.

You will need to demonstrate passion and interest in the hair sector as well as a positive and professional attitude to learning.
