Course Overview

This study programme will deepen your knowledge and skills in painting and decorating, and it will allow you to further develop your basic understanding of painting and decorating techniques.

You will learn key health and safety principles and practice specialist finishes for decorative work in our high-quality training facilities. This study programme builds on Level 1 learning and is a great stepping stone to an apprenticeship.

Core subject areas may include:

  • Health, safety, and welfare
  • Technical information, quantities, and communication
  • Knowledge of construction technology.

Key practical skills and knoweldge may include:

  • The erection and dismantling of access equipment and working platforms
  • Preparation of surfaces for decoration
  • Application of paint systems by brush and roller to complex areas
  • Application of foundation and standard papers
  • Production of specialist finishes for decorative work
  • Application and creation of colour.

Assessment Methods

You are assessed through a series of practical projects in the workshop. Knowledge is assessed via written work produced in the classroom and end of unit multiple-choice exams.

Progression Options

On successful completion, you could progress to an industry recognised qualification of your choice, find employment, or secure an Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range, or other equivalent qualifications in English and maths. A relevant Level 1 qualification is an advantage. You will be invited to attend an interview to assess your suitability for the course.
