Course Overview

The Administration Assistant apprenticeship is a practical, hands-on route into a career that exists in every sector.

From small local companies to large national organisations, administrators play a vital role in keeping daily operations running smoothly. This programme builds your confidence, knowledge and experience so you can become a reliable and valued member of any team.

As an apprentice, you will learn how to complete routine administrative tasks that support colleagues and wider organisational functions. You will follow clear procedures, work under supervision and gradually build independence as your skills grow. Your responsibilities may vary depending on your workplace, but they will always focus on helping teams stay organised, accurate and efficient. You will develop strong digital skills, using systems and tools to collate, extract and enter information. This may include updating records, preparing documents, managing data or supporting colleagues to meet deadlines.

You will also learn how to communicate professionally with supervisors, managers, customers, suppliers and other departments such as finance and human resources. Flexibility is an important part of the role. You will learn how to respond to changing priorities, manage your workload and support different areas of the organisation when needed. Understanding confidentiality and handling sensitive information responsibly will also be central to your training.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will grow and meet organisational standards. Every workplace is different, so your experience will be shaped by real tasks, real people and real expectations, giving you a strong foundation for long-term employment. This apprenticeship suits a wide range of job roles, including admin assistant, business support, clerical assistant, data clerk, office assistant or receptionist. It is an excellent starting point if you’re looking to build a career in administration, customer service or office management.

Topics may include:

  • Communicating professionally with colleagues, customers and external organisations using a range of methods such as email, phone, online platforms and face-to-face conversations
  • Supporting meetings and events, including preparing materials, organising resources and following organisational procedures
  • Storing, retrieving and sharing information securely using digital and physical systems
  • Using software packages to collate, input, format and check data, including spreadsheets, databases and cloud-based tools
  • Managing routine tasks such as updating records, sourcing information, monitoring resources and reporting issues to supervisors
  • Planning and reviewing workload, responding to feedback and developing skills through continuous professional development.

Assessment Methods

Assessment for this apprenticeship is carried out through an internally assessed portfolio of evidence and an externally assessed question-and-answer component.

Your portfolio will showcase your practical skills, workplace tasks and developing competence across the standard. The Q&A assessment checks your knowledge and understanding in a structured, professional discussion.

Throughout the programme, you will receive feedback, review your progress and refine your work to meet organisational and assessment expectations.
