Course Overview
This qualification is aimed at learners who have worked in Beauty Therapy for some time or have a Level 2 qualification.
Learner’s work will typically involve supervising others or managing resources and they are looking to develop skills to gain specialist skills or move into a management role.
Topics may include:
- Anatomy and Physiology – you must build a deep theoretical understanding of the human body’s systems to perform treatments safely.
- Practical Massage Techniques & Principles – the hands-on component teaches you the physical mechanics of professional massage execution.
- Client Consultation & Professionalism – because this course prepares you to work with real paying clients, substantial emphasis is placed on commercial care.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is through practical observations, online exams, case studies and workbooks.
Progression Options
You could progress to the Level 4 Salon Management / Hair and Beauty Management as you prepare for supervisory, management, or business ownership roles.
Many students use the Level 3 Award as a stepping stone to learn specific holistic or advanced therapies. Popular short-course progressions include:
- Stone Therapy Massage: Learning to incorporate hot and cold basalt stones into full-body treatments.
- Aromatherapy Massage: Studying the properties and physical blending of essential oils tailored to individual client profiles.
- Indian Head Massage: Expanding into targeted upper-body, neck, scalp, and facial rituals.
- Deep Tissue or Sports Massage (Level 3/4): Transitioning from relaxing treatments toward rehabilitation, injury prevention, and treating deep muscle tension.
Entry Requirements
You will need a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy, Complementary Therapies or Hairdressing.
Alternatively, relevant prior work experience within the beauty or salon industry can be accepted in place of formal certifications.

The Student Experience Team works closely with the Safeguarding & Lifestyle Teams to promote proactive wellbeing enrichment sessions. The team can refer on to counselling when appropriate.
