Course Overview

This study programme will appeal if you wish to enhance your carpentry skills and follow a career into the construction industry. You will be taught in our carpentry workshop which is well equipped with the latest tools, materials and equipment from the construction industry.

Our dedicated construction training environment is enhanced with classrooms and computer facilities that provides students with a great opportunity to develop their existing carpentry skills and knowledge.

Topics may include:

  • Timber technology
  • Advanced hand tool skills
  • Power tool skills
  • Advanced woodworking joints
  • Timber ironmongery
  • Understanding access equipment
  • Information, quantities, and communication
  • Understanding the construction industry.

Assessment Methods

Practical coursework will be marked through set practical tasks and a synoptic test piece. Underpinning knowledge is assessed through internally set test papers and an online exam.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this study programme, you could progress to a Level 3 Construction T Level, a Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeship (if suitable employment is secured) or secure employment in to the construction industry. Each option is subject to a successful interview.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range including English, or an appropriate Level 1 qualification such as the Level 1 in Carpentry & Joinery. Course entry is subject to an initial assessment to determine the appropriate level of study and a successful interview.
