This new and dynamic Nursing Associate course is aimed at individuals wanting to work in health and social care, beyond the level of a healthcare support worker, enabling you to have opportunities to progress and develop your career.

You will work under the leadership and direction of registered nurses from all fields of nursing, providing and monitoring high quality holistic and person-centered care to individuals whilst supporting the registered nurse in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

The course has been developed to provide an outcome based programme of academic and practice-based learning that will develop the wide-ranging skills and capabilities required to work as a registered nursing associate and to support the role of the registered nurse.

Through working in partnership with our local National Health Service partners, and private and voluntary sector partners, students are able to experience the range of health and social care in accute and community settings.

Modules may include:

  • Improving Quality and Safety of Care
  • Professional in Clinical Practice 1 and 2
  • Relationship Management and Communication Skills
  • Interdisciplinary Team Working
  • Medicines Management and Pharmacology
  • Preventing Ill Health and Promoting Health
  • Provision of Integrated Care.

Assessment Methods

Assessments are a mix of written assignments, presentations, exams, and objective structured clinical exam (OSCE).

Progression Options

Qualified nursing associates can progress into a dynamic career as a registered professional, in addition to being able to progress onto a BSc Nursing degree at an advanced entry point. Both adult and mental health progression routes are available at University Centre Somerset.

Entry Requirements

Typically entrants will possess:

  • A minimum of 48 UCAS Points from a full Level 3 qualification
  • GCSE maths and English at grade 4 and above, or equivalent.
