Course Overview

Join us for a hands-on day of bread making at Taunton, where you’ll discover the joy of creating fresh, homemade bread from scratch. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to build your confidence, this practical course will introduce you to a range of bread-making techniques that you can easily recreate at home. Throughout the day, you’ll learn how to make a classic yeast bread dough before experimenting with a variety of delicious flavour combinations and added twists.

You’ll also discover how to make a traditional soda bread – a quick, no-prove loaf that’s perfect when you’re short on time but still want the satisfaction of freshly baked bread.

For lunch, you’ll prepare and enjoy a freshly baked focaccia, choosing from a selection of delicious fillings to create your own personalised meal.

By the end of the day, you’ll leave with the knowledge, confidence, and recipes to continue baking fresh bread at home.

Topics may include:

  • Mix, knead, prove, and bake a classic yeast bread dough as well as create some unique with confidence
  • Prepare and bake a traditional soda bread using a simple, no-prove method
  • Understand the differences between yeast breads and quick breads, and when to use each technique
  • Understand the key principles of successful bread making, including dough development, fermentation, and baking
  • Learn professional bread-making techniques and receive expert guidance throughout the day from an experienced professional chef.

Additional costs: £90.

Assessment Methods

There is no formal assessment for this course, however, there will be full instruction on how to create all of the products and also a little recipe book to take home so you can carry on perfecting your technique.
