Course Overview
Medication matters training is a refresher course for healthcare professionals with the responsibility of receiving, storing, administering and disposing of medication. The benefits of undertaking this course is to reduce the likelihood of medication errors and therefore improving patient/user experience.
The course will cover the following aspects of medication administration:
- Legislation
- The eight rights of medication administration
- Classification and types of medication
- Routes into the body
- Maintaining records
- Types and reasons for errors
- Storing and disposing of medication
- Self-administration and supporting independence
- Contra indications, allergies, and overdoses
- Monitoring dosage systems
- Medication calculations.
Assessment Methods
There are no formal assessments for this course, but class discussions will take place around the theoretical underpinning of knowledge.

The Student Experience Team works closely with the Safeguarding & Lifestyle Teams to promote proactive wellbeing enrichment sessions. The team can refer on to counselling when appropriate.
